Retraction

Retraction

Article withdrawal (retraction) is the procedure for disavowing already published article at the request of the journal's Editorial Board, Editor-in-Chief, or at the request of the author(s). The reasons for the retraction are gross violations by the author/authors of legal, publishing and ethical norms.

The following situations can be a reason for retraction of article:

  • the author was exposed for plagiarism in the publication.
  • use of artificial intelligence when writing the text of the article (except for permitted routine operations);
  • the article was duplicated in several issues,
  • fabrications and falsifications were found in the scientific material (for example, falsification data on the archaeological sites, fake references, etc.);
  • Detection of serious errors in the work which makes disputable its scientific value;
  • the composition of the authors is incorrect (for example, the list of authors includes persons who did not prepare the article or take part in field explorations, or the authors who participated in the research and preparation of the article are not indicated);
  • hidden conflict of interest (or other violations of the publishing ethics);
  • have not properly completed review procedures or have fake reviews, ordered material and violate the principle of objectivity;

Initiators of the retraction procedure can be:

  • the Editor-in-Chief who applies with a reasoned submission for withdrawing a scientific article;
  • the Editorial Board of the journal which sends a reasoned request to the Editorial Board of another journal having published the article in question;
  • authors of the material who made a motivational appeal in writing to the editor-in-chief of the journal;
  • participants of the conflict of interest and other subjects who apply with evidence of a violation of professional, legal and journalistic ethics.

If the Editorial Board decides to withdraw the article on the basis of its expert evaluation or received information, the author(s) should be informed about this decision and reasons for the withdrawal.

After the decision to retract the article is removed from the journal's website, and announcement of the retraction is printed in the table of contents of the next issue, with a reference to the number where it was published.
