Abstract

The authors created a database of the participants of the XII Archaeological Congress, which took place in 1902 in Kharkov, taking into account the fact that recently the personification of history has become increasingly important. The received materials made it possible to determine: the information about the congress participants’ years of life; their age while Kharkiv archaeological forum; gender; education; institution represented by a congress participant; academic degree; participation in the work of previous committees and the congress itself, etc. It was established that 394 people took part in the congress. This work made it possible to reveal complete data on 234 participants of the congress; partial information was collected about 68 people. Information about 92 persons remained unclear. We managed to find out the educational data of 208 participants, among whom there were 119 university graduates. The researchers from 30 cities of the Russian Empire took part in the 12th Archaeological congress; they were representatives of 63 scientific institutions (8 universities, 21 scientific societies, 15 scientific archival commissions, 5 provincial statistical committees, etc.). Out of 89 reports heard at the congress, 46 ones were made by professors and assistant professors; respectively, 43 reports (almost 50 %) were made by persons without a degree. It is important to note that there were also four women among the speakers. An interesting fact is the presence of whole families at this scientific forum.

The prosopographic analysis made it possible to conclude the following: the 12th Archaeological congress became a vivid example of creating a location for intellectual interpersonal interaction of professional archaeologists, historians, ethnographers, artists, and local historians. The creation of a collective portrait of the Kharkiv scientific forum participants made it possible to understand in what way professional identities were formed, how intellectual connections and archaeological communities were created in the urban space context.
